About Makadam

Makadam is a Montenegrin pop-rock band, formed in 1978 in Titograd, today Podgorica. It was founded by Mirsad Serhatlić and Miodrag Radonjić, and the first line-up also had Josip Kestner, Zlatko Zakrajšek and Savino Batanov.

Their debut LP, Makadam, released by PGP RTB in 1979, is described as the first Montenegrin pop-rock record. It was recorded in Split, because Montenegro had no studio at the time, and one of its songs dealt with Montenegro and the earthquake of 1979. After the earthquake the band played for the volunteer work brigades in Titograd, Bar, Petrovac, Kotor and Nikšić, and they went on to tour Yugoslavia widely, from Belgrade, Sarajevo and Ljubljana to Skopje and Opatija. They also opened for Bijelo Dugme at the JNA Stadium in Belgrade.

Makadam came third in the Yugoslav selection for Eurovision with "Balerina", and the album Balerina followed in 1982. For several years they appeared at the Opatija festival as representatives of Montenegrin radio and television.

In a later line-up Josip Kestner, singer Gordana Ivandić and Mirsad Serhatlić formed the core of the band. Makadam won the Pjesma Mediterana festival with "Da mi je znati", and later placed second and third there; an album called Da mi je znati came out in 1995. At the start of the new millennium they won the Sunčane skale festival in Herceg Novi with "Evo ima godina", a duet with Tifa, which also brought them the Prince's award for song of the year in 2001 and an Oscar of popularity in Belgrade for hit of the year. In 2006, the year of Montenegro's independence referendum, they released "Moj cvijet iz kamena", a song about Montenegro. When Gordana Ivandić returned to Sarajevo for family reasons, the band stopped performing.
