Flamingosi

Flamingosi were a Serbian-Montenegrin duo formed in the summer of 2005 by the TV presenter Ognjen Amidžić, who performed as Renato, and the actor Marinko Madžgalj, who performed as Valentino. Their music mixed folk, rock and jazz, and they became a big hit in their very first year, when their debut album Razum i osećajnost came out.

Gordost i predrasude followed in 2006, the year Flamingosi made their bid for Eurovision with the folk-jazz singer Louis. On 10 March 2006 at Sava Centar in Belgrade they won Beovizija with "Ludi letnji ples", written by Goran Stanković and Ognjen Amidžić, with 82 jury points and 10,128 televotes, the highest public vote of the night, ahead of Ana Nikolić with "Romale romali".

The next evening, again at Sava Centar, Evropesma, the joint final of Serbia and Montenegro, brought together 24 songs from the Serbian and Montenegrin selections. There "Ludi letnji ples" again led the public vote with 11,928 televotes but finished second with 60 points, behind No Name's "Moja ljubavi" with 64, after the Montenegrin jurors gave it nothing. The audience booed the winners and cheered Flamingosi and Louis, the broadcasters' association UJRT refused to accept the result, and on 20 March Serbia and Montenegro, with no entry submitted, was removed from the contest; Croatia took its place in the final.

Later albums were Prljavi igrači (2011) and the two sides of Seti se našeg zaveta (2011 and 2014). Fans also know them for "Ljubav", "Kao Zdravko Čolić", "U plavim noćima", "Sati" and "Danijela".

Marinko Madžgalj was born on 21 August 1978 in Belgrade and raised in Kotor. He studied at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade and played Čeda Velja in the series Crni Gruja, along with roles in Ne daj se, Nina, Ranjeni orao and Greh njene majke. He died of pancreatic cancer in Belgrade on 26 March 2016, and with his death Flamingosi ceased to exist.
