About Madam Piano

Madam Piano, born Ljiljana Rančić on 18 September, is a Serbian pop, ethno and jazz singer who lives in Belgrade and was active from 1991 to 2004. She learned the violin as a child and first performed in 1991, with Ana Sofrenović.

In 1993 she won the Beogradsko proleće festival with "Sanjam", and the next year she appeared on the compilation Beogradska džez scena 1993 with "Karavan", working with Boris Bunjac and Dejan Škopelja. In 1996 she came second at MESAM with "Bonito".

Her debut album Predeli came out in 1997, made with her then husband Dejan Škopelja, a member of U škripcu and Babe. She sang at Pjesma Mediterana in Budva several times, among them "Moj jasmine" with Bora Dugić in 1998 and "Eternal Love" with the Italian singer Franco Masi in 2001. That duet is on her second album Zemlja čuda (2001), whose guests included Dugić, Masi and Raul Alberto Dijas. Priče iz davnina (2002) turned to ethno, recorded with the group Teodulija and the musicians Branko Isaković and Boris Krstajić, with guests such as Ružica Čavić, Marija Mihajlović, Predrag Cune Gojković and Oliver Njego. Serbian Wikipedia names Hi-Fi Centar as her label.

In 2004 she came ninth at Evropesma with "Igra" and then withdrew from music, saying that public life weighed on her, although she sang "Jedan susret zauvek" with Franco Masi at Pjesma Mediterana in 2005. In a 2011 interview she said she was preparing a new album.

Madam Piano now teaches jazz singing at the Stanković music school in Belgrade and at the Kulturno sklonište school in Novi Sad. Under the name Nia Nedeljković she also works as an astrologer: she earned the international ISAR CAP certificate in Belgrade in 2011, graduated from the Johannes Kepler astrology institute and co-wrote the book Odiseja 2012. She has a daughter, Luna, from her marriage to Škopelja, and a son, Luka, with her husband Marko Nedeljković.
