About Babe

Babe are a Serbian rock band from Belgrade, formed in 1992 as a side project of three experienced musicians whose main bands were on a break: singer and guitarist Žika Milenković of Bajaga i Instruktori, singer and drummer Goran Čavajda of Električni Orgazam and guitarist Zoran Ilić "Ilke" of Riblja Čorba. The idea came from bassist Bojan Vasić, who had played with Ilić in Bezobrazno Zeleno. Milenković's humorous lyrics and a stage act built on his years in the amateur theatre Levo soon became the band's trademark.

During the recording of the debut album Vasić moved to South Africa, and Dejan Škopelja, formerly of U Škripcu, took over the bass. Slike iz života jednog idiota came out in 1993, produced by former Električni Orgazam member Ljubomir Jovanović "Jovec", with guests including Margita Stefanović of Ekatarina Velika. Babe then toured as the opening act for Riblja Čorba. In 1994 they played a festival at the Sava Centar, recording "Adio stres" for the compilation Bez struje, recorded a cover of Azra's "Lijepe žene prolaze kroz grad" at the Dom Omladine, appeared at the Rokenrol zauvek celebration of 30 years of Yugoslav rock, released the EP 4 Babe and performed "Dizel" in Srđan Dragojević's film Dva sata kvalitetnog TV programa. They sang "Loša navika" at MESAM in 1994 and "Zadnja noć" in 1995.

Their second album, Lažne slike o ljubavi, came out at the end of 1995. It sold less than the debut, but "Ko me ter'o" and "Mesnica" were hits; the rest of the album, including "Stranac usranac", a version of "Strangers in the Night", went largely unnoticed. Čavajda left at that time and moved to Tasmania, where he died on 16 February 1997. The compilation P.S. Babe followed in 1998, and the third album, Slike sna i jave (Samo za ludake i buntovnike), was recorded in the summer of 1999 with a new line-up. Babe ended their work in 2000.

The band reunited in 2013 for the 20th anniversary of their debut, with Milenković, Škopelja, Ilić and new member Goran Ljuboja "Trut", and released the comeback single "Daj mu ga Lola" in 2014 and "Primabalerina" in 2017. On 1 April 2017 they played their first solo concert in more than 20 years, at Mikser House in Belgrade, followed by a show at the Kombank Dvorana in October 2019. Their best-known songs include "Ko me ter'o da te volim", "Da te vidim golu", "Piksla od kristala" and "Noć bez sna".
