About Nervozni Poštar
Nervozni Poštar ("Nervous Postman") are a Bosnian folk rock band formed in 1985 by Fadil Šabović, a physician who plays rhythm guitar and wrote most of the band's music, lyrics and arrangements. The band is known for mixing hard rock with folk music, two styles usually seen as too far apart to combine; a Danas columnist called the result "hevi-sevdah". The singer is Nusret "Nuki" Doličanin.
Šabović told a journalist from the Zagreb magazine Start that the idea came to him at an emergency station in Busovača, while he was stitching up the wound of a drunk man who held a singer's hand and sang folk songs. People, he decided, needed something much harsher than the folk singers of the time could give them.
The debut album Vazda gazda came out in 1985, followed by Zapamti, ja sam gazda (1986), Ništa više nije kao prije (1987), Nervozni poštar (1988) and To je samo Folk 'n' Roll (1989). Their singles included "Zapamti, ja sam gazda" with "Mi smo drvosječe" (1986), "Ej, Maro, Marice" (1987) and "Vojnička pjesma" with "Nova godina" (1988). After a long silence in the 1990s the band came back with Život to je divna fešta (2001) and Gas - Gas (2004), then paused again until the album Nervozni Poštar 2017.
Songs such as "Salko dinamitaš", "Cirkus Kolorado" and "Sanjam" are among the ones the band is remembered for, along with "Šljivovica ljuta", "Vojnička pjesma" and "Nova godina kuca na vratima".
