About Kemal Malovčić

Kemal Malovčić is a Bosnian singer of folk and pop-folk music, born in 1946 in the area of Sanski Most, Bosnia and Herzegovina; the Bosnian Wikipedia places his birth in the village of Okreč near the town. His career began in the late 1960s, and in those early years his brother Džemal Malovčić wrote both the music and the lyrics for his songs. His early singles came out on the Diskos label.

In the early 1980s he recorded with the ensemble of Branimir Đokić, on the albums Gdje si sada, leptirice moja (1982), Doviđenja, ja nemam strpljenja (1983) and Škorpion sam ja (1984).

The peak of his career came with Južni Vetar, the Serbian folk band he joined in 1985. In seven years he made seven albums with them, starting with Okreće se kolo sreće (1985), recorded with Miodrag M. Ilić and Perica Zdravković, which is reported to have sold about 600,000 copies. Ko gubi... (1986), Oženi me babo moj (1987), Kemal (1988), Prosjak ljubavi (1989), Caru ide carevo (1990) and Ti si moj 13. broj (1991) followed. Hits from those years include "Sine, sine", "Mirsada" and "Caru ide carevo", the song he is best known for. Kemal Malovčić is counted among the band's "Big 5" singers, together with Sinan Sakić, Dragana Mirković, Šemsa Suljaković and Mile Kitić.

After leaving Južni Vetar he joined a humanitarian movement of Bosnian entertainers and sang at several charity concerts for Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the 1990s he worked with the Džavid Band, on albums such as Neka paša, neka aga (1994), and his later records include Trn u oku (1995), Ranjeno je srce moje (2001), Car ljubavi (2002), Tek, tek (2004), Sretan put (2006), Sikter (2007), Deveram (2009) and Kralj pjesme (2016). By 2019 he had released 25 albums and 16 singles and EPs.

Kemal Malovčić lives in Vienna, Austria, with his wife Fadila. They have three sons and a daughter, Edita Malovčić, an Austrian actress and singer.
