Zlata Petrović

Zlata Petrović is a Serbian pop-folk singer, born on 13 July 1962 in Belgrade, at the Narodni front maternity hospital, to a father of Montenegrin origin and a Roma mother. She grew up in the villages around Obrenovac with her mother Dragica, a singer, and her stepfather Bora, an accordion player. Because both were often away performing, she was looking after her younger half-brothers and the family's animals from the age of about seven.

Her parents married her off as a teenager without asking her. She ran away to an aunt in Belgrade, and her mother gave her a choice: start performing with her or be married off again. So she began by singing with her mother in kafanas, until her mother saw she could manage alone and stopped singing herself. At seventeen Zlata was singing on her own, with a year-long engagement in Vršac, and the musician Duško Petrović invited her to sing at a wedding in Paris.

Her first album, "Dođi da mi ruke greješ", came out in 1983 on Diskoton, and its title song brought her enormous popularity. A long run of albums followed, among them "Ljubi me još malo" (1984), "Srce će ga prepoznati" (1986), "Koga sam ja to volela" (1987), "Daj mi Bože malo sreće" (1989), "Dušmani" (1991), "Učinilo vreme svoje" (1993), "Proklet da je ovaj život" (1994), "Ne daš mi da dišem" (1995), "Bravo, ti si pobedio" (1996), "Ljubav nema pamet" (1997), "Mirišeš na nju" (2001), "Zagušljivo" (2004) and "Pola tri" (2008). She sang "Poludelo srce" at Hit parada in 1992 and at Poselo 202 in 1993, and "Učinilo vreme svoje" at Poselo 202 in 1996.

Zlata Petrović was married to the singer Hasan Dudić and later to the TV host Zoran Pejić, and has a son from each marriage. In 2010 she took part in the reality show "Farma". Her best-known songs include "Dođi da mi ruke greješ", "Oženićeš se ti", "Zaboravi plave kose", "Učinilo vreme svoje", "Poludelo srce", "On me voli, on me želi", "Mađije", "Mirišeš na nju" and "Vragolasta".
