Mitar Mirić

Mitar Mirić is a Serbian singer of folk, pop-folk and traditional songs, born on 16 January 1957 in Bogutovo Selo near Ugljevik, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He recorded his first single in 1974 for the Sarajevo label Diskoton, with songs by Zaim Imamović and Ismet Alajbegović Šerbo, and in the late 1970s he was discovered by the label Diskos from Aleksandrovac.

From 1979 to 1997 he worked with the composer Novica Urošević, who wrote almost all the songs on those albums, and from 1979 to 1984 the ensemble of Branimir Đokić played on all his records. He won the Ilidža festival in 1979 with "Poslednja stranica", taking first prize from both jury and audience, and won again in 1980, when he sang "Dobra stara Baščaršijo" and "Umreću bez tebe nevero moja". After that his popularity grew fast.

His debut album, Okreni se, ne okrenula se, came out in 1979, and in 1980 he sang "Voli me danas više nego juče", by Ljubo Kešelj with lyrics by Ilija and Đura Boljanović. Radio-televizija Srbije later included it in its series of the 60 most beautiful folk songs. The albums Dobro jutro, rekoh zori (1982), U svanuće ne idem do kuće (1983), Sve su iste osim tebe (1984) and Živela ljubav (1984) sold in the millions. He sang "Živela ljubav" at MESAM in 1984, and "Ne diraj čoveka za stolom", from his 1986 album, at Poselo 202 in 1987.

Mitar Mirić kept recording for decades, with albums such as Dajte mi da živim (1988), Ne može nam niko ništa (1989), Čudotvorac (1996), Pustolov (1998), Ličiš na sve moje bivše (2009) and Zvali ste na jedno piće (2017). Over the years he also worked with Rade Vučković, Dragan Brajović Braja and the lyricist Marina Tucaković. In 2008 he sang "Dobra stara Baščaršijo" again at Ilidža's evening of legends, and in 2022, as a guest of the Sabor narodne muzike Srbije, he received the award of national estrada-music artist of Serbia.
