About Nada Obrić

Nada Obrić is a Serbian folk singer, born on 6 June 1948 in Zvornik, where she finished primary and secondary school and won the republic championship in gymnastics. She studied law in Sarajevo, and in 1971, while she sang with the folk ensemble KUD "Slobodan Princip Seljo", Damjan Babić noticed her and offered her a record with Jugoton in Zagreb.

Her first single, "Neću da plačem / Kad sunce zađe", came out that same year. For a whole decade she sang while working as a lawyer in the Sarajevo municipality of Centar, releasing a run of Jugoton singles such as "Neću drugu ljubav" (1972), "Ko je kriv za moju tugu", which she sang at the Yugoslav festival in Paris in 1975, and "Gdje se dvoje vole, suvišan je treći" (1977). She sang at the Ilidža festival every year from 1977 to 1980, with "Noćas za tebe pjevam", "Uzalud se tebi nadam" and "Pusti me na miru da svoj život živim" among her songs there.

In 1981 she recorded the LP Ne dozvoli da te druga voli, which sold in diamond numbers, and from then on she gave herself entirely to music. More albums followed, among them Čuvaj me (1983), Nije lako bez tebe (1984), Suze ljubavi (1986) and Oprosti mi suzu (1991). At MESAM she sang "Oj, ljubavi, moja prošla" in 1984 and "Bolna ti ležim" in 1985, and singles such as "Dugo te, dugo očekujem" (1984) and "Još me boli jedna stara rana" (1988) became lasting hits. In all she recorded some thirty records: fifteen singles, as many albums and several compilations.

Later she owned a beauty salon in Belgrade and, from 2004, wrote and hosted the TV shows "Svet uspešnih" and "Zvezdana staza". In 2008 she returned to Ilidža for the festival's night of legends with "Dugo te, dugo očekujem". Nada Obrić received a charter for her contribution to Serbian music in 2016, the Serbian estrada-music award for lifetime achievement in 2019, and in 2022 the award of national estrada-music artist at the Sabor narodne muzike Srbije in Belgrade. Her best-known songs also include "Imala sam ljubav jednu" and "700 dana bolujem".
