About Dado Topić
Dado Topić is a Croatian rock singer, songwriter and bass player, born Adolf Topić on 4 September 1949 in Siverić. His family soon moved to Nova Gradiška, and he has been making music since the late 1960s.
He started in high school with Đavolji eliksiri, playing bass and singing, then played in Lavine and, from 1967, in Dinamiti from Osijek. When Krunoslav Slabinac and Antun Nikolić left for military service, Topić moved to rhythm guitar and sang lead for the first time. In late 1969 he replaced Dalibor Brun as the singer of Korni Grupa, where he wrote his first songs.
In September 1971 he left Korni Grupa, and in November that year he formed Time in Zagreb with Tihomir Pop Asanović, Vedran Božić, Mario Mavrin, Ratko Divjak and Brane Lambert Živković. The progressive rock band released "Time" (1972), "Time II" (1975) and "Život u čizmama s visokom petom" (1976) before it stopped in late 1977. Topić then toured as bass player behind Zdravko Čolić, sang on Smak's 1979 single "Na Balkanu" and had a hit with "Floyd", written by Zoran Simjanović for the film Nacionalna klasa.
His solo career began with the double concept album "Neosedlani" (1979), followed by "Šaputanje na jastuku" (1980), with the hit "Elizabet", and the mini LP "Vodilja" (1983). In 1984 he recorded "Princeza" with Slađana Milošević, which led to their joint compilation "Slađana i Dado" (1989). After moving to Austria in the late 1980s, he recorded "Molitva" with Parni Valjak in 1994, a duet with Aki Rahimovski that won the Porin for best vocal collaboration.
In 1997 he won the critics' and the audience's first prize at Melodije Istre i Kvarnera with "Nisan znal", and in 1998 he revived Time with Božić and Divjak. Albums such as "Otok u moru tišine" (2001) and "Apsolutno sve" (2004) followed. In 2007 Dado Topić and the band Dragonfly won Dora in Opatija with "Vjerujem u ljubav" and represented Croatia at Eurovision in Helsinki, where the song placed 16th in the semi-final with 54 points and did not reach the final.
He shared the win at the 2003 Budva festival with Saša Matić, and in 2010 he won Pjesma Mediterana with Slađana Milošević and Sunčane Skale with Anita Popović. He lives in Poreč and opened a studio in Grožnjan.
