Drugi Način

Drugi Način is a Croatian rock band from Zagreb, formed in 1974, whose sound spans progressive rock, hard rock and new wave. Its roots are in the band Novi akordi, where singer Branko Požgajec, guitarist Halil Mekić and bassist Željko Mikulčić played with drummer Adonis Dokuzović, and Ismet Kurtović joined while Mekić was in the army. In July 1974 Dokuzović left for Divlje Jagode and Boris Turina took over the drums, and that autumn the band was renamed after a poem by Federico García Lorca, with a logo designed by the comic artist Igor Kordej.

The debut album, Drugi Način, was recorded in Ljubljana and released by PGP-RTB in 1975, after Jugoton had turned the recordings down. Played by two guitars and two flutes, it brought the band's biggest hits, "Stari grad" and "Lile su kiše", along with "Žuti list". When Požgajec went into the army at the end of 1976, Kurtović and Mekić formed Nepočin. After his return the singles "Prođe ovaj dan" (1978) and "Obećaj mi proljeće" (1979) came out on Jugoton, and the line-up kept changing; guitarist Robert Krkač, for one, left to join Film.

The second album, Ponovno na putu (Suzy, 1982), had a minor hit in "Piši mi". The band toured hard, reportedly up to 150 concerts a year, but its popularity faded with the rise of new wave, and from the late 1980s it played only now and then.

In 1992 Požgajec brought the band back with re-recordings of old songs and two new ones, "Jer postoji ona" and "A'la vild". In 1998 they sang "Seoska djevojka" at the festival in Neum, and in May 2000 they opened for Jethro Tull in Zagreb. The third studio album, Zgubidan (Menart, 2016), included covers of Focus's "House of the King" and Drago Mlinarec's "Trebao sam ali nisam". Požgajec, the only member present through the band's whole history, still leads it, today with Božo Ilić Dugi, Ernest Vinković, Mario Domazet and Mladen Palenkaš.

In the book YU 100 (1998) the debut album was ranked 88th, and in 2011 listeners of Radio 202 chose "Stari grad" among the 60 greatest songs released by PGP-RTB.
