About Vatreni Poljubac
Vatreni Poljubac is a hard rock band from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, founded in October 1977 by Milić Vukašinović, who writes the songs, sings and plays guitar. Vukašinović had played with Plavi Dijamanti from the age of thirteen, then with Čičak and in a trio with Goran Bregović and Zoran Redžić. Back from London in 1974, he became the drummer of Indexi, and from October 1976 to October 1977 he stood in for Ipe Ivandić in Bijelo Dugme. When Ivandić returned, he started his own trio with Shefqet Hoxha on bass and Perica Stojanović on drums.
The band made its debut at the BOOM Festival in Novi Sad. The first single, "Doktor za Rock 'n' Roll", was named single of the year by Yugoslav music journalists, and "Navrat-nanos i na svoju ruku" followed in 1979. The debut album Oh, što te volim, joj came out on Sarajevo Disk in 1978, with every song, lyric and arrangement by Vukašinović. Recept za Rock'n'Roll (1979), To je ono pravo (1980), Bez dlake na jeziku (1980), with "Boogie je htjela", and Živio rock 'n' roll (1982) followed, and in 1979 and 1980 the band sang at the Opatija festival.
After a break the band came back with Iz inata (1985), which had the humorous hit "Žikino kolo", and on 15 June 1985 played YU Rock Misija at Red Star Stadium in Belgrade. On 100% Rock 'n' Roll (1986), with "Stipu gatibo", the singer was Tifa (Mladen Vojičić), the only album without Vukašinović's voice, after which he ended the group.
Vukašinović spent the war in besieged Sarajevo, moved to Belgrade in 1997, wrote "Goodbye" for Bosnia and Herzegovina at Eurovision that year and revived Vatreni Poljubac in 1998. Later albums include Sve će jednom proć' samo neće nikad Rock 'n' Roll (1999), Kad svira rock 'n' roll (2011) and Život je k'o fol ako nije R'n'R (2022), and in 2005 he played drums at Bijelo Dugme's reunion concerts. The band is counted, with Divlje Jagode, among the leading names of Bosnian hard rock. In the Rock Express Top 100 Yugoslav Rock Songs of All Times, a poll of readers, critics and musicians published in 2000, "Doktor za rock and roll" was ranked 95th.
