About Električni Orgazam

Električni Orgazam is a rock band from Belgrade and one of the most notable acts of the former Yugoslav rock scene. It was born in January 1980 in the Mornar bistro, after a Leb i Sol concert, when Srđan Gojković "Gile" and Ljubomir Jovanović "Jovec" of the hard rock band Hipnotisano Pile sat down with organ player Ljubomir Đukić "Ljuba" and planned a punk group; Đukić wrote the lyrics of "Konobar" while they waited for the waiter. The band was officially formed on 13 January 1980 with guitarist Goran Sinadinović and bassist Marina Vulić, and Goran Čavajda "Čavke" soon took over the drums.

At the Omladina festival in Subotica in autumn 1980, run by Riblja Čorba leader Bora Đorđević, they smashed microphones and cymbals and were disqualified; Film won. Their first recordings, "Krokodili dolaze", "Zlatni papagaj" and "Vi", came out in 1981 on Jugoton's Paket aranžman, shared with Idoli and Šarlo Akrobata. The debut album Električni orgazam (1981), produced by Ivan Stančić "Piko", brought "Nebo" and "Konobar" and was praised in the NME. A tour of Poland gave the live EP Warszawa '81, followed by the psychedelic Lišće prekriva Lisabon and the covers album Les Chansones Populaires.

After Kako bubanj kaže and Đukić's departure, guitarist Branislav Petrović "Banana" and bassist Zoran Radomirović "Švaba" joined, and Distorzija (1986), with "Debela devojka", "Ja sam težak kao konj" and "Ne postojim", made them a mainstream rock band. Letim, sanjam, dišem (1988) brought the instant hit "Igra rock 'n' roll cela Jugoslavija" and a concert at Tašmajdan Stadium, after which the band split up for a time.

Reformed in 1991, Električni Orgazam carried on through Zašto da ne!, A um bum and Harmonajzer. In 1992 Gojković, Čavajda and Radomirović joined Ljubomir Jovanović, Ekatarina Velika frontman Milan Mladenović and Cane and Anton of Partibrejkers in the anti-war group Rimtutituki, whose single "Slušaj 'vamo" was released by Radio B92. Čavajda later left to devote himself to Babe. Đukić returned in 2004, and on 14 July 2007 the band opened for the Rolling Stones in Belgrade. To što vidiš to i jeste (2010) sold 50,000 copies in a month, and Gde smo sad? followed in 2018.

The book YU 100 ranks Distorzija 24th and Kako bubanj kaže 73rd among the best Yugoslav albums. In the Rock Express Top 100 Yugoslav Rock Songs of All Times, published by the magazine in 2000 after a poll of more than 3,400 readers, 120 journalists and critics and 100 musicians, "Igra rock 'n' roll cela Jugoslavija" was ranked 9th and "Nebo" 42nd, and Rimtutituki's "Slušaj 'vamo" 27th. On the B92 Top 100 Domestic Songs list, "Nebo" is 26th and "Krokodili dolaze" 72nd.
