About D Bojs
D' Boys, pronounced "The Boys", were a synth-pop and pop rock band from Belgrade, formed in 1982 as a duo of Peđa D'Boy (Predrag Jovanović) and Mihajlo "Miško" Mihajlovski. Peđa had sung in the 1960s with Lutalice, played in French cafés and metro stations and, in the 1970s, joined the German krautrock band Jane, recording their 1980 album; Mihajlovski came from the new wave band Kozmetika. They first called themselves Peđa i Miško and then Oksižen, until the TV host Dubravka Marković and Srđan Gojković "Gile" of Električni Orgazam suggested D' Boys.
Their first single, "Mi smo D' Boys", got them support slots with Film, Boa and Aerodrom, and their campy songs about nightlife, parties and girls, full of Belgrade slang, made them club favourites even as critics mocked them. In the autumn of 1982 guitarist Goran Vejvoda and Miško Plavi, formerly of VIA Talas, joined and pushed the sound towards rock. The debut album Ajd' se zezamo came out in the spring of 1983, recorded in Split and produced by Željko Brodarić "Jappa", with "Draž", "Sinjorita" and "Sexy, sexy" on the radio.
The second album, Muvanje (1984), was produced by Oliver Mandić with members of Generacija 5 as guests. It included a version of "Oh, Pretty Woman" and "Jugoslovenka (Ljupka oko pupka)", which became the band's biggest hit, along with "Snežana" and "Florida (Mala moja, ne plači)". After a summer in Greece Mihajlovski left, and the others carried on as the Peđa D'Boy Band, releasing Avantura (1985) and Laku noć ti, mala (1986), produced by Kornelije Kovač. In 1985 Peđa sang on the YU Rock Misija charity song "Za milion godina" and took second place with "Jugoslovenka" at the Song of the Mediterranean in Palermo. The band stopped after a Greek tour with Riblja Čorba and Galija in 1986.
Miško Plavi later played in Piloti and Ekatarina Velika, while Mihajlovski performed in clubs with Bebi Dol from 1987; he died on 2 December 2011. Peđa returned to Serbia in 2006 and released new albums from 2008. "Jugoslovenka" was covered by Viktorija and used in the film Lepa sela lepo gore, "Mi smo D' Boys" was ranked 100th on the B92 list of the 100 best domestic songs in 2006, and the compilation Mi smo D' Boys: The Very Best Of came out in 2018.
