About Daleka Obala
Daleka Obala was a Croatian rock band from Split, founded in 1985 by singer Marijan Ban and bassist Boris Hrepić. The line-up changed over the next few years until guitarist Jadran Vušković and drummer Zoran Ukić joined in 1988, and that line-up played its first concert on 27 November 1988 at the Zlatna vrata cinema in Diocletian's Palace. Within a year they had played more than 50 concerts in and around Split and recorded a demo cassette for the independent label Lvxor. Ban wrote most of the songs, and his unusual range of topics left a mark on Croatian songwriting; keyboard player and guitarist Bogo Šoić-Mirilović wrote "Kurve" and "Osamdesete".
In 1990 they played the Subotica festival with "Valovi" and released their first album, Daleka obala, on Suzy, produced by Dragan Lukić "Luky". Ludi mornari dolaze u grad (1992), Mrlje (1993), Morski pas (1994), Di si ti (1997) and 1999-2000 (1999) followed. Neno Belan sang backing vocals on every album and also played keyboards on and produced Mrlje, and in 1994 he and the band released the single "Hrvatska čigra". Dino Dvornik, a close friend of the band, produced Di si ti. On 1999-2000 Vušković sang much of the album and Belan sang "Kurve", and "Jugo" won the Porin for hit of the year in 1999.
The band split quietly in 2001. Ban, Vušković and Šoić-Mirilović formed Marijan Ban i ostali before Ban went solo, while Ukić and Hrepić started The Obala. The live album Uspomena came out in 2002. Šoić-Mirilović died on 21 June 2018.
In 2019 the four remaining members met for the first time in 18 years, for the 20th anniversary of 1999-2000, marked with the LP 999, a live double LP and a box set of unreleased songs from 1999. They decided to carry on with a new frontman, the saxophonist and singer Jakša Jordes, with Ban's blessing, and released the album Kao sad in 2022. In December 2023 the band announced it would stop again. The music videos of Daleka Obala are gathered here in one playlist.
