About Osmi putnik
Osmi putnik is a hard rock and heavy metal band from Split, formed on 7 May 1985 and named after the Yugoslav title of Ridley Scott's film Alien. Its first singer was Zlatan Stipišić, later known as Gibonni, who founded it with bassist Davor "Dado" Gradinski and guitarist Nenad "Mitar" Mitrović. The band played its first concert on 1 August 1985 at Split's Gripe as the opening act for Zabranjeno pušenje, a month later won the Dalmatia Youth Rock Meetings, and at the end of the year won the Radiotelevision Zagreb show Stereovizija with "Lutko moja, takav sam ti ja".
With guitarist Bojan "Božo" Antolić and drummer Miro Marunica in a steady line-up, they released their debut Ulična molitva on Jugoton in 1986. All its songs were written by Stipišić, and the glam metal album sold a silver edition and took the band to the top of the Yugoslav hard rock scene. Glasno, glasnije followed on PGP-RTB in 1987, produced by Mirko Krstičević, formerly of Metak, whose "Da mi je biti morski pas" they covered. Hajduk Split players sang backing vocals on the title track, which became the band's biggest hit and for a time an unofficial anthem of the club's fans. Readers of the magazine Rock named Osmi putnik the band of the year and the album second only to Kao kakao by Leb i sol.
The third album, Drage sestre moje... nije isto bubanj i harmonika (1988), opened with the single "Mi smo majstori", but only months later Stipišić left for Divlje jagode and the band fell silent. In 2002 Antolić, Gradinski and Mirjan Jovanović revived it with Stipišić's blessing and singer Dean "Clea" Brkić, formerly of Pandora. The comeback album Živ i ponosan (Dancing Bear, 2005) brought new versions of "Glasno, glasnije" and "Srce od kamena", and in June 2006 the band opened for Motörhead in Zagreb.
Tajna (2010) included a cover of Zdravko Čolić's "Glavo luda". After Brkić left in 2013, Giuliano Đanić took over the microphone, and he sings on Rock 'n' roll se kući vratio (2021), new versions of old songs plus the new "Nada"; on the new "Tajna" Doris Dragović is the guest. In 2011 Radio 202 listeners counted "Glasno, glasnije" among the 60 greatest songs released by PGP-RTB and PGP-RTS. The playlist gathers the band's albums from Ulična molitva to the live record from Split in 2019.
