About Van Gogh

Van Gogh is a Serbian rock band from Belgrade, formed in 1986 around guitarist Zvonimir Đukić "Đule" and drummer Srboljub Radivojević, who have been its mainstays ever since. The first line-up also had singer Goran Milisavljević, keyboard player Đorđe Petrović and bassist Predrag Popović. In February 1986 they released the single "Tragovi prošlosti", in May they took second place by audience vote and third by the jury at the Youth Festival in Subotica, and at the end of the year came the alternative rock album Van Gogh. After a number of concerts the band split, and Đukić played with Fit, Ekatarina Velika and Nikola Čuturilo.

Van Gogh reunited in 1990 with Đukić now singing, released the single "Gubiš me" and, in 1991, the album Svet je moj, with Milan Mladenović and Margita Stefanović of Ekatarina Velika, Zoran Radimirović of Električni Orgazam and Tanja Jovićević of Oktobar 1864 as guests. It contained the hit "Neko te ima". Strast (1993), recorded as a trio, moved the band towards mainstream rock, and Hodi (1996) brought "Delfin", "Hodi", "Kiselina" and "Apsolutno ne". That year they also covered the Korni Grupa song "Jagode i maline". The live album No Comment, recorded at the SKC in January 1997, followed, and in 1998 Van Gogh was voted Yugoslav rock band of the year in the YuMusic Internet Awards.

After Opasan ples (1999) and DrUnder (2002) the band became one of the top acts of Serbian rock. They filled the Tašmajdan Stadium in 2003, opened for Metallica at the Partizan Stadium on 15 June 2004, and in 2006 released Kolo, whose folk-flavoured title single drew on a traditional poem recorded by Vuk Karadžić. In 2007 they won Best Adriatic Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards and played the Belgrade Arena; Lavirint (2009) sold more than 100,000 copies in its first month, and their second Arena show that year was named concert of the year. They won the MTV award again in 2014, the first band to win it twice.

Neumeren u svemu (2013) was made by Đukić and Radivojević as a duo, the acoustic Ako stanemo, gubimo sve marked 30 years in 2016, and the tenth studio album, More bez obala, came out in 2019. In the Rock Express Top 100 Yugoslav Rock Songs of All Times, a poll of the Serbian magazine Rock Express, started in 1999 and published in 2000, in which more than 3,400 readers, 120 journalists and critics and 100 musicians each chose five songs, "Neko te ima" was ranked 6th, the No Comment version of "Klatno" 40th and "Mama" 52nd.
