About Klapa Sveti Juraj HRM
Klapa Sveti Juraj HRM is a Croatian klapa from Split, the male a cappella vocal group of the Croatian Navy (Hrvatska ratna mornarica, the HRM in its name). It was founded at the beginning of 2001 and is based in Split, which is why it is filed under Croatia here. Its purpose is to keep and spread Dalmatian klapa singing, together with sacred songs.
The klapa's artistic director is the academic musician Mario Božić. Among its singers are Hrvoslav Kužić, Stipe Botica, Marko and Goran Bralić, Domagoj Zanić, Darko and Ignacije Tranfić, Bruno Andrić, Ivica Kuzmanić, Jakov Šegvić and Dragan Popović.
Its first big prize came in 2002, the gold award of an international festival in Bolesławiec, Poland. In 2005 it won the silver Cambi tower at Kaštelanski dir, and in 2008 the expert jury's first prize for the best original klapa song at the Dalmatian klapa festival in Skradin. At the Split festival of popular music it won the Grand Prix twice: in 2009 with Đani Stipaničev and "Mali Paškin", and in 2019 with Goran Karan and Tedi Spalato and "Kuća naše pisme", which also took the audience and jury prizes. In 2010 "Zapivaj klapo moja" won the jury's first prize at the Marko Polo festival in Korčula.
The klapa has more than 150 audio and video recordings behind it, among them the albums Pismo moja, Priče mora, Cvijet čežnje, Ružo crvena and Hrvatski Božić. Plovit se mora, made for its 20th anniversary, won the Porin for best pop-folk album in 2022. It has sung across Europe, from Italy, France and Belgium to Hungary, Austria and Montenegro, and it regularly sings at the Christmas concert in Zagreb's Lisinski hall. It has also sung with Hari Rončević.
The playlist is the klapa's Christmas concert in Kaštel Stari in December 2007, with carols such as "Narodi nam se", "Rodio se Bog" and "Božićna zvona".
