About Aleksandra Kovač

Aleksandra Kovač is a Serbian singer-songwriter, composer and music producer, born on 30 September 1972 in Belgrade. She is the eldest daughter of the composer Kornelije Kovač of Korni Grupa and the lyricist Spomenka Kovač, and the older sister of the musician Kristina Kovač. She began playing the piano at six and wrote her first songs at thirteen. Her music is pop with a strong soul side, and her idols are Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Alicia Keys.

In 1989 she and Kristina formed the duo K2 and signed a five-year deal with a London management company. They supported Labi Siffre and Errol Brown of Hot Chocolate on tour, and their debut album, K2, went to number one in Serbia and sold more than 70,000 copies. Malo soula followed in 1996 and Vamos de Fiesta, made for the Spanish market, in 1998, after which the duo stopped working. In 1993 she had also played keyboards and sung backing vocals for the Spanish group Locomía.

In 2000 she founded the production team RAproduction with Roman Goršek. The two wrote and produced for many artists from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, among them Nina Badrić, Severina, Jacques Houdek, Deen, Goran Karan, Boris Novković and Vesna Pisarović. Her solo EP You and Me came out in 2001.

Her first solo album, Med i mleko (2006), with the singles "Ti" and "C'mon Boy", made her a star at home, and that year she won the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Adria Act. On 26 April 2007 she gave her first big concert at the Expo hall in Belgrade. The album U mojoj sobi followed in 2009 with "Hoka hej", and Cotton 100% in 2016. In 2011 she sang her own composition "Idemo dalje", with lyrics by her mother, in Serbia's Eurovision selection and finished second.

Since 2015 she has written music for film and television with Goršek, including the series Ubice mog oca and Državni službenik and the films Zaspanka za vojnike and Dara of Jasenovac. She was a judge and mentor on the second season of X Factor Adria in 2015. Her later singles include "Jedna žena", "Ljubav" with Marko Tolja, and in 2020 "Bajka", "Mlečni put", "Odavde do večnosti" and "Poljubi me". In 2024 she received the Order of Karađorđe's Star for her work in music and film. The playlist gathers her official music videos.
