About Kristina Kovač
Kristina Kovač is a Serbian pop singer, songwriter and composer, born on 10 November 1974 in Belgrade. She is the daughter of the composer Kornelije Kovač, the founder of Korni Grupa, and of the songwriter Spomenka Kovač, and she first became famous together with her older sister Aleksandra Kovač in the duo K2.
The sisters started young. In 1989, guided by their father, they recorded an English-language album, Way to the Top, in Spain under the name Next of Kin, and in 1991 they sang backing vocals for Bebi Dol at the Eurovision Song Contest. From 1991 to 1993 they worked in London, toured with Labi Siffre and sang in London clubs, and Errol Brown of Hot Chocolate later took them on as his opening act and backing singers.
As K2 they released Ajmo u život in 1995, an album that became very popular with the singles "Džangl manija" and "Milo moje". Malo soula followed at the end of 1996 with the number-one singles "Dabadamdam" and "Sestre", and the 1997 compilation Time Out added "Srebro i zlato", whose video became one of their biggest hits. In 1998 they released the Spanish-language album Vamos de Fiesta on EMI. The duo then split, and both sisters went their own ways.
Kristina worked behind the scenes for several years. She wrote melodies for many advertisements, put together the boy band Peti Element in 2001, wrote music for other singers, among them Karolina Gočeva, and composed the music for the 2005 film Mi nismo anđeli 2, the biggest Serbian film of that year.
Her solo album U nebranom grožđu came out in the summer of 2007. She wrote and produced all ten songs herself, and the players included the Croatian band Cubismo, the drummer Vinnie Colaiuta and the guitarist Dominic Miller. The Latin pop single "Kolena", recorded with Cubismo, was a big summer hit in Serbia, and "Život je ljut" also reached the MTV Adria Top 20; its video won the prize for best video at Beovizija 2009 and at the Sunčane skale festival. "Milica i ja" and "Ko" also come from the album.
Kristina Kovač was a judge on the first series of X Factor Adria. In 2019 she moved with her family to Stockholm, Sweden.
