About Vesna Pisarović
Vesna Pisarović is a Croatian pop and jazz singer, born on 9 April 1978 in Brčko, Bosnia and Herzegovina. She grew up in Požega, went to music school from early childhood, played the flute, sang in choirs and took part in music competitions. In the late 1990s she moved to Zagreb, where she studied phonetics and Croatian language and literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
In 1997 she sang "Nema me" at Zadarfest and met the journalist and composer Milana Vlaović, who went on to write many of her songs. Her first album, Da znaš, came out in 2000 and earned her a Porin nomination for best new artist. Za tebe stvorena followed in 2001 and Kao da je vrijeme... in 2002, both on Croatia Records, with songs such as "Ja čekam noć", "Za tebe stvorena" and "Jutro donosi kraj".
In 2002 she won Dora, the Croatian selection, and represented Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest with "Everything I Want", finishing 11th. Two years later she wrote "In the Disco" for Deen, the entry of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which came 9th in the 2004 final. Her albums Pjesma mi je sve (2003) and V. peti (2005) followed, and later Hit Records released videos such as "Neka ljudi govore", "Ti si kriv", "Ljubomora" and "Tako mi nedostaješ".
She then turned to jazz. After With Suspicious Minds (2012) came The Great Yugoslav Songbook (2016) on the German label Jazzwerkstatt, jazz versions of Yugoslav hits of the 1950s and 1960s. Its Croatian edition, Naša velika pjesmarica (2017), a double vinyl on PDV Records, was nominated for a Porin. Petit Standard (2019) was her third jazz album. In 2025 she released Poravna on PDV Records, recorded with the guitarist Noël Akchoté, with traditional songs from Bosnia such as "Vrbas vodo, što se često mutiš?" and "Dunjaluče, golem ti si".
She also returned to the big stages: a sold-out concert in Zagreb's Dom sportova in April 2022, the Cibona hall in November 2023 and the Arena Zagreb in April 2025. The playlist is her Topic channel on YouTube, from the pop albums to the jazz and Bosnian songs.
