About Jarboli
Jarboli (The Masts) are a Serbian alternative rock band from Belgrade, formed in 1991 by Daniel Kovač and Boris Mladenović on guitars and vocals, Žolt Kovač on bass and Nemanja Aćimović on drums. They started out under the spell of garage and punk rock, playing Belgrade clubs such as Bunker and opening for Obojeni Program and Instant Karma.
Their early recordings came out in 1996 as Čizmanoga, a cassette made in only fifty copies and later reissued on CD by Beopolis. The first studio album, Dobrodošli, followed in 1999 on B92. In 2001 the keyboard player Sonja Lončar, formerly of E-Play, joined, and that December the band released Suvišna sloboda, with strings arranged by her and saxophone by Dušan Petrović of Eyesburn.
The EPs Samo ponekad (2000), Uslovna sloboda (2003) and the live Jedan čovek jedna rezolucija (2005) led to Buđenje proleća (2006), produced by Mladenović; the Popboks critics named it the fourth best album of 2006 and the band's SKC concert the best concert of the year. In 2011 Suvišna sloboda was ranked 7th and Buđenje proleća 43rd among the best Serbian albums of the 2000s.
"Podrška je važna" was number one on the Jelen Top 10 in October 2009. The album Zabava (2011) was given away as free MP3s and pressed as a double LP on the band's own label, Odličan Hrčak, and the live album Podrška je važna, recorded at Božidarac in 2013, came out in 2014. The singles "Zabluda" (2013) and "Mladost" (2015) announced new music, which arrived with Probaj golog muškarca in 2024.
Jarboli songs also appear on tribute and compilation albums, among them "Idemo" on the Milan Mladenović tribute Kao da je bilo nekad... (2002), and lines from "Glavu gore" were included in Petar Janjatović's anthology Pesme bratstva, detinjstva & potomstva.
