About Eyesburn
Eyesburn is a Belgrade band, formed in 1994, that mixes hardcore punk and crossover thrash with reggae. The first line-up had guitarist Nemanja "Kojot" Kojić, formerly of Dead Ideas, singer Nenad Živić, drummer Aleksandar "Alek" Petrović, bassist Vladimir "Laza" Lazić and Aleksandar "Gile" Radulović. The name was a comment on Serbian TV programmes that "burned the eyes".
Their first release, Freedomized, was recorded live at the Belgrade club KST. Živić left weeks before the studio sessions for Dog Life (1998), so Kojić took over the vocals, and the album, sung in English, included a cover of Bob Marley's "Exodus". Kojić also took up the trombone, and the band moved into reggae, dub and drum and bass; they covered Haustor's "Šejn" for a compilation. Fool Control (2000), produced by Saša Janković, with "No Free Time" and "Foolin' I & I", fused modern rock, metal and breakbeat reggae, and its title song was heard in the film Munje!
Eyesburn played EXIT in 2001 and 2002. The EP Gabau! had guests such as Disciplina Kičme drummer Will Parker and Oliver Nektarijević of Kanda, Kodža i Nebojša; in 2002 came Cool Fire with Jamaican dub poet Ank Steadyspear, and in 2003 the harder Solid. Max Cavalera invited them to record "Moses" for the Soulfly album Prophecy and to join its 2004 European tour. How Much for Freedom? followed in 2005 on PGP-RTS, before a break in 2007.
Reunited in 2011, the band released Reality Check in 2013, with "Hold This Way" and "Frontline", and marked twenty years at SKC in 2014. After another pause from 2016, the classic core of Kojić, Petrović, Lazić and guitarist Aleksandar "Lale" Nikić returned in 2019. Troops of Light came out on Mascom in 2022 with "Aware (Bam Bam)", the band celebrated thirty years in March 2024, and in 2025 they were back on stage and released "Renegade". The playlist is the band's own channel.
