About Dead Ideas

Dead Ideas was a hardcore punk and crossover thrash band from Belgrade. Bassist and singer Darko Marković formed it in 1990, but that first line-up split after one concert. In January 1991 he started again with singer Jelena Komnenić and guitarist Nemanja Kojić, and drummer Igor Škoro joined soon after.

The band recorded four songs in April 1991 for the 7-inch EP Welcome to the Abyss on Start Today Records, followed by a promo tape in 1992. The tape album Where To? came out in 1993 on DIDC Tapes and was later reissued by Silver Cross Records, which also released an EP in 1995. Dead Ideas appeared on many compilations of the time, among them the Radio B92 collection Radio Utopia, recorded "Wrong" at B92 in January 1994 and appeared in Geto (1995), a film about the Belgrade underground scene. In 1994 they played a festival in Rovigo, Italy, raising money for the Sarajevo city library, and toured Slovenia and Greece.

Around 1995 Nemanja Kojić left to form Eyesburn, and Ninoslav Filipović "Nino" took over the guitar. The band ended in 1996; its members went on to groups such as Osmi Putnik Dva, Yobo and Sunshine. A live tape recorded in Ilirska Bistrica in January 1996 was released in 2021, and in September 2023 the band put out a remastered video for "Wrong" and a video for "War Games", filmed at one of their concerts at the Bunker club in Belgrade. Those videos are gathered here.
