About Kanda Kodža i Nebojša
Kanda Kodža i Nebojša is an alternative rock band from Belgrade, formed in 1990. Their sound mixes rock with funk, jazz, acid-jazz and soul, carried by the reggae-style singing of their frontman Oliver Nektarijević, and their name translates roughly as "Probably, Plenty and Daredevil".
The first line-up, Nektarijević on vocals, Rastko Lupulović on guitar, Vladislav Rac on bass and Stevan Dimitrijević on drums, was soon joined by Marko Petronijević on trumpet. After two years and a win at the Palilula Culture Olympics they paused while Nektarijević was in the United States, and on his return in 1994 they carried on. Their debut, Guarda Toma! (1996), combined live recordings from Belgrade's KST with studio tracks such as "Put za Tunu", "Priroda", with a guest appearance by Darkwood Dub singer Dejan Vučetić, and "Toma Bebić", dedicated to the singer Toma Bebić. The band soon became a leading club act and a live attraction.
In 1996 Lupulović left to become a monk. Igračka plačka (1998), with the new guitarist Ivan Topisirović, brought "S.A.T", "Right Direction" and "Šafl", and the band covered Disciplina Kičme's "Manitua mi". Become (2000), sung entirely in English, featured Eyesburn frontman Nemanja Kojić, and in 2001 "Izlazim" appeared on the soundtrack of the film Munje. That spring the band stopped when Nektarijević moved to Los Angeles.
They returned in 2003 with a new line-up and released Prekidi stvarnosti, named the best album of 2005 by the webzine Popboks. Trumpeter Zoran Erkman, formerly of Disciplina Kičme, joined in 2005; with the composer Irena Popović the band made the rock opera Mozart... Luster... Lustig, and Deveti život (2008) was again Popboks' album of the year. Manifest (2011), announced by "Kafane i rokenrol", and Volja za noć (2014) followed. Erkman died in May 2013. In 2016 the band marked 25 years with a concert in Mikser House, and the singles "Prekidi ponovo", "Jamajka" and "Misli dobro" led to a new run of albums: Uskoro (2019), Popis (2020), Ravnoteža je poremećena (2021), Beton (2022) and Što pre (2026).
In 2006 "Priroda" was ranked 48th in Radio B92's Top 100 Domestic Songs, and in 2011 the listeners of Radio 202 chose "Prekidi stvarnosti" as one of the 60 greatest songs released by PGP-RTB/PGP-RTS. The playlist here is the band's Topic channel, with Što pre and new recordings of "Izlazim", "Kafane i rokenrol" and "Šafl".
