Ana Pupedan

Ana Pupedan is a rock band from Pivka in western Slovenia, active since 1992. In the Primorska dialect the name means one o'clock in the afternoon, while it misleadingly sounds like a girl's first name and surname. The band sings mostly in Slovenian and in its local dialect.

The group was born when two bands merged. Simon Avsec and Peter Žnidaršič had played in the first, where around 1991 some songs of the debut album An je pupedan jü were written, among them "Dočakal sem nov dan", "Gledam v iluzijo" and "Resničen svet". Marko Doles and Boštjan Požar played together in the second, first called Insectus and later Rekvijem. All four had known each other since primary school, and they held their first rehearsal together on 7 November 1992.

Since then they have played more than 800 concerts, including shows in North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Italy, Denmark, Belgium, the United States, Ukraine and Dalmatia. Simon Avsec sings and plays violin, mandolin and harmonica, Boštjan Požar - Skok plays guitar and clarinet, and Peter Žnidaršič - Pero plays bass and berda.

Their anniversaries at the Skala hall in Pivka turned into gatherings of the Slovenian scene. The 15th, on 24 November 2007, featured Vlado Kreslin, Zoran Predin, Zmelkoow, Zablujena generacija and Elvis Jackson, and came out on CD and DVD. The 25th, in 2017, brought Klemen Klemen, Predin, Grega Skočir of Big Foot Mama and Borut Marolt of Niet; the 30th, in 2022, Rudi Bučar, Goran Šalamon of Demolition Group, Tina Marinšek of Tabu and the Vuksanovič brothers of Avtomobili.

In March 2017 they released Besne pesmi with Jani Kovačič, recorded live in Ajdovščina and Postojna. The drummer Marko Doles died in a hiking accident near Šebrelje on 25 January 2025, and Andrej Pirjevec took over the drums.
