About Zmelkoow
Zmelkoow is a Slovenian rock and pop band from the Primorska coast, founded in Koper in 1992. The band is known for lyrics that range from simply off the wall to downright morbid, and its music mixes pop rock with punk, parody and a streak of the absurd.
Before the name Zmelkoow the band played as Bajonet. It began as a trio of Žare Pavletič on bass, Gorazd "Goga" Sedmak on vocals and guitar and Damjan Barut on drums. Aleš Koščak took over the drums in 2001, and the line-up grew with the singers Aleksandra Čermelj, Eva Brajkovič and Anuša Podgornik, who also plays keyboards and flute.
Their first records were a 1993 vinyl single with "Streloowod", "Brrr..." and "Čau sonček!" and the 1994 single "Yo!". "Čau sonček!", from the first album Kdo se je zbral? (1994), was their first bigger hit. Čiko Pajo in Pako (1996) and Srebrna (1997) followed, and in 1999 the wider Slovenian public got to know them through "Bit", from Dej, nosorog, pazi kam stopaš.
In 2000 they played an unplugged session for Jure Longyka's Izštekani, released as Izštekani pri Juretu Longyki, and in 2001 came Superheroji v akciji. Plošča (2004), the double best-of Kolekcija jesen 93 – poletje 07 (2007), Čista jajca? (2009) and Pionirji divergentnega marketinga (2016) followed. One of their records, Zdej en dan v srednjem veku (2007), recasts their songs in a medieval style. They have toured all of Slovenia and played festivals such as Kamfest, Rock Otočec, Lent and Orto Fest.
Their album 10/10 came out in 2022, led by "Kaj nam fali?", its most played and most successful song. In January 2023 they sold out Ljubljana's Kino Šiška for a show billed, with a wink, as the "great farewell concert – the first". Goga Sedmak has said the beauty of music lies in delivering a message in an interesting, intriguing, even ambiguous way.
