About Big Foot Mama

Big Foot Mama is a Slovenian rock band, formed in Ljubljana in 1990. It started as a high-school band playing rock'n'roll hits, but the members soon began to record songs of their own, and by the end of the decade the band was one of the most popular pop rock acts in Slovenia.

The first line-up had Andrej Kos on vocals and guitar, Miha Guštin on guitar, Alen Steržaj on bass and Jože Habula on drums. In 1994 Kos was replaced by the singer Grega Skočir, and the guitarist Daniel Gregorič joined the same year. Guštin left in 2002 and Zoran Čalić took over his guitar, and that five-piece line-up of Skočir, Steržaj, Habula, Gregorič and Čalić has stayed together since.

The first album, Nova pravila, came out in 1995, followed by Kaj se dogaja? in 1997 and Tretja dimenzija in 1999. The band reached the height of its popularity after the third album: it was considered the Slovenian pop rock band of the decade, broke sales records for rock and filled Križanke and Hala Tivoli, two of the largest concert venues in Ljubljana, which until then had been thought out of reach for Slovenian rock bands.

More studio albums followed: Doba norih (2001), 5ing (2004), Važno, da zadane (2007), Izhod (2012), which went to the top of the Slovenian album sales chart, and Plameni v raju (2018). Between them came the compilation Big Foot Mama (2003) and the live album 15 let v živo z gosti (2006). Among the band's hits are "Led s severa", "Mala nimfomanka", "Važn' da zadane", "Garbage", "Neki sladkega" and "Pomlad", a song that recalls the band's work with Ansambel Lojzeta Slaka; in 2005 the two shared the stage at the Rock Otočec festival.

For the band's twentieth anniversary in 2010, the documentary film Tist' dan v tednu was released, and in October 2011 its release on DVD was celebrated with a concert at Cvetličarna in Ljubljana that sold out two days in advance. The compilation Let 25 marked the band's quarter century in 2015.

Big Foot Mama has kept playing clubs and festivals around Slovenia. The live album Big Foot Mama 30 came out in 2022, and the band's most recent release is Klasika iz Cankarja (2026), recorded live.
