Avtomobili

Avtomobili are a Slovenian pop and rock band with new wave roots, founded in Nova Gorica in 1982 by the brothers Marko and Mirko Vuksanović. Marko sings and writes the lyrics, Mirko plays keyboards and writes the music, and the two brothers have been the core of the band ever since.

The original line-up was completed by Roman Nussdorfer on guitar, Valter Simončič on drums and Mitja Mokrin on saxophone. In 1984 they won first prize at the youth festival in Subotica and released their debut album Mjesec je opet pun. Through the 1980s they played mostly outside Slovenia, in the other republics of Yugoslavia, recording Dugo toplo ljeto in 1985 and Krenimo in 1987, before turning their attention to the Slovenian scene.

In the 1990s they released Mraz in 1992 and Skozi leta in 1994, and they won the Zlati petelin award for best Slovenian rock band in 1994 and 1996. Navaden dan followed in 1997 and Enakonočje in 2000, and the compilation Največji zadetki gathered their hits in 1998. For a time they also worked as the backing band of Božidar Wolfand Wolf, Zoran Predin and Miran Rudan.

Later albums include Mesta železniških postaj in 2006, the live album Klub klubov in 2008, Pozna pomlad in 2012, Daleč in 2016 and Sijaj in 2022. The band marked its 30th anniversary on 5 October 2012 with a concert at Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana, with guests including Severa Gjurin and Rok Golob.

The line-up has changed many times around the brothers. David Šuligoj, who first worked with them as sound engineer on Skozi leta, later played bass with the band until his death in 2023. The current line-up has guitarist Boštjan Andrejc Bushy, drummer David Morgan and bassist Uroš Trebižan beside Marko and Mirko. Their best-known songs include "Skozi leta", "V mrzlih dvoranah", "Pot domov", "Hvala za pisma", "Ljubezen ne stanuje tu", "Enakonočje", "Sama" and "Gospodar".
