About Zdravo
Zdravo were a Yugoslav disco and funk group from Belgrade, formed in 1976 by the singer and keyboard player Boban Petrović, until then a nightclub DJ. He named the band after Zdravo, a youth magazine that Politika had just launched, to catch the media's eye. The first line-up had Dragan Jovanović on guitar, Branko Kojić on bass and Vlastimir Cvetković on drums, plus three singers and dancers, and the band often performed with female dancers on stage.
Their debut single, "Vikend fobija" with "Roditeljski savet" (1977), was their one big hit, although critics disliked it. "Disko je prava stvar" with "Raspust i kraj" followed the same year, and a live "Sugestivni rok" recorded at Pinki hall appeared on the album Pop parada I. In August 1977 Zdravo opened for Bijelo Dugme at Hajdučka česma, and at the end of the year for Indexi on their Yugoslav tour.
Jovanović left to form Generacija 5, and Branko Pešić joined. Petrović was then dating Slađana Milošević: the band played on her debut single "Au au", and she sang as a guest at several of their concerts. After the single "Sugestivni rok" with "Žalba" (1978) the original line-up broke up, and Petrović carried on under the name with other musicians, releasing "Kuc-Guc-Štuc" with "'Ajmo na žurku" (1979), a duet with Gordana Ivandić, and "Moram" with "Balada o šampionu" (1980).
Boban Petrović then went solo. In 1981 he released the EP Meteorologija and the album Žur, recorded in New York, whose "Prepad" was ranked 82nd on the B92 list of the top 100 domestic songs in 2006; Zora (1984) was his last album. He later ran Belgrade discos, wrote the novel Rokanje (1986) and the autobiography Rokanje 2 (2020), and moved into business abroad, in Marbella.
