Teya

Teya is an Austrian singer and songwriter with Serbian roots. She was born Teodora Špirić on 12 April 2000 in Vienna to Serbian parents, and spent part of her childhood in Kladovo in eastern Serbia before the family moved back to Vienna. That Serbian family, and the years in Kladovo, are why she is on Muzika-Balkan. According to Wikipedia and the Serbian press she returned to Vienna with her parents, and Vienna is where her career is based. She names Adele and Amy Winehouse as her main influences.

She began under the name Thea Devy and released her first single, "Waiting For", in 2018, along with a few more singles first published in Switzerland. At the end of 2019 she tried to represent Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with "Judgement Day" and made the shortlist of three, but was not chosen. She then entered the song in Beovizija 2020, the Serbian national selection, as "Sudnji dan", in a Serbian translation made by her parents. She reached the final and finished tenth.

In 2021 she took part in the fifth season of the Austrian talent show Starmania and reached the top eight. There she met Selina-Maria Edbauer, known as Salena. The same year she released "Runaway (Stay)" with the Croatian singer Ninski, already under the name Teya. As Teya & Salena the two were chosen in January 2023 to represent Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool with "Who the Hell Is Edgar?", a song written at a songwriting camp in the Czech Republic. It qualified from the second semi-final and finished 15th in the final.

Her first solo EP, Grandma on the Dancefloor, came out in 2024, the year of the singles "Behind the Scenes", "Not Scared of Growing Old" and "To-Do List"; a second EP, Corporate Composer, followed in 2025, after the singles "Talk That Talk", "Bourgeoisie" and "Girls Like Girls". She also writes for other singers: she co-wrote "Wasted Love" with JJ, the song that won the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 for Austria. She sang "Bite Marks" for the video game League of Legends, released on 7 January 2025, and performed it at the League of Legends World Championship final in Chengdu, China, on 9 November 2025.
