About Sanjin & Youthman

Sanjin & Youthman are a Bosnian-Swedish duo of two cousins, DeeJay Sanjin and the singjay and producer Emir "Youthman" Kobilić. They call their music "Balkan Dancehall": Jamaican dancehall and reggae rhythms with lyrics in Bosnian and Jamaican Patois. Their label describes them as Bosnian immigrants to Sweden, and a 2012 feature says the cousins come originally from Bosanska Gradiška in Bosnia and now live in Sweden; that Bosnian birth and upbringing is why they are on Muzika-Balkan under Bosnia. Emir Kobilić was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1986 and later moved to Stockholm.

The two started out more than ten years before 2012 in the Swedish underground hip hop scene. Early tracks such as "Hoću da se napijem" and "Vadim pištolj" came before they signed with the reggae label Germaica Digital in August 2011. Their first official single, "Runnin' Dis Town", came out that month: a tongue-in-cheek song about their image and background, built on Youthman's own instrumental, which samples a Bosnian song from the 1980s and became the label's "Yu Go!" riddim.

"Guzica" followed in December 2011, premiered on the Swedish radio programme Metropol. In February 2012 Mir Crew mixed "Runnin' Dis Town" with Joey Fever's "Ti-Li-Boom" into the moombahton single "Yu Go! Moom-Bah-Ton". The debut EP Balkan Dancehall came out in April 2012, produced by Youthman, among them "Balkan Cowboy" with Las Balkanieras, "Hey Señorita" with Rigo, "Tourist", "For A While" and "Pijem viski" with Joey Fever. They also appeared on riddim albums with "Balkan Vibe" and other songs.

In 2013 came the single "How I Play", the EP Yunited and their best-known song, "Zlatan", inspired by the Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimović. By February 2014 its video had passed 700,000 views on YouTube, and a remix with Promoe of Looptroop, Ward 21, Dr. Alban and Aleks was released worldwide on Sony Music. Over the years they worked with Million Stylez, Joey Fever and Red Fox.

Youthman also produced Swedish radio hits for Gnucci Banana and Lilla Namo. As a DJ and producer Emir Kobilić is known as Salvatore Ganacci, and Sanjin sang on "Fresh", his 2014 single with Jillionaire of Major Lazer. The playlist here is the duo's Balkan Dancehall EP from the label's channel.
