About Milana Mišić

Milana Mišić is a Finnish pop singer, born Anna-Maria Milana Mišić on 23 October 1970 in Espoo. She is on Muzika-Balkan because of her father, the Yugoslav (today Croatian) musician Milan "Mišo" Mišić; her mother was Laila Kinnunen, one of the most popular Finnish singers of the 1960s and Finland's Eurovision singer. Her parents split up when she was two, and she grew up with her grandparents in Helsinki, first in Hietalahti and from 1984 in Maunula. As of early 2023 she lived in Kirkkonummi.

Around 1990 she sent a demo tape to EMI and was offered a record deal. Her first single, "Auringon tyttö" with "Saa tanssii taas", came out in 1991, followed in October by the debut album Milana, and she toured the summer of 1992 on the Aurinkotyttö tour. The second album, Serenata (1993), was closer to Finnish schlager, and its single "Kulkukissa" was played widely on the radio. The constant comparison with her mother weighed on her, and at the end of 1993 she stopped performing and trained as an optician, graduating in 1998.

Producer Pale Saarinen brought her back in 1999 with a Latin-flavoured sound: the singles "Sydän saa merkin" and "Kuu riittää" led to the album Sydän saa merkin in 2001. In 2004 she sang the duet "L'amore impossibile" with Petri Kaivanto at the Golden Stag festival in Romania. In 2008 she finally recorded her mother's songs under her own name on the album Laulumme, and played in the music theatre show of the same name about Laila Kinnunen's life. Valoa ikkunassa (2009) brought more of her mother's songs, and Jos itken, jos nauran (2010) other songs of the 1960s.

In 2011 she entered the Finnish Eurovision selection with "Sydämeni kaksi maata" ("My heart's two countries"). She has also acted in musicals. The playlist is her debut album Milana.
