Marija Božović

Marija Božović is a Montenegrin pop and jazz singer who also records under the name Maria B. Her career has been made on the Montenegrin scene, from the festival in Herceg Novi to the jazz stages of Petrovac, and music databases list her under Montenegro.

She started out with the group Agoli Agbo, with whom she released her first single, "Sunny day", and began her solo career at the Sunčane skale festival in Herceg Novi in 2002, singing "Ljubavi mi daj" among the new stars. She came back to Sunčane skale with "Sama" in 2003 and with "Uzalud", for which she wrote the lyrics, in 2005. She also competed twice in Evropesma, the national selection of Serbia and Montenegro for Eurovision, with "Ni jedna suza" in 2004 and "Pronađi put" in 2005, a song written by Nikola Radunović of Perper. At the Budva festival in 2006 she sang "Bez najave", composed by Slaven Knezović to her own words.

That song gave its name to her debut album, Bez najave, released by Goraton in 2007. Of its ten songs she wrote the lyrics to five, working with composers such as Dejan Božović, Mirsad Serhatlić, Slaven Knezović, Igor Burzan and Vladimir Maraš.

As Maria B she has worked in hip hop and R&B as well. She sang on "Bar-Bari" on Krš i drača, the 2012 album by Who See, and on the 2014 album Golden Age by Deep Thoughts, and released English songs such as "Misbehave", "Standing Still" and "Goin Down".

In recent years she has turned to jazz and to old songs from the region. With her band she performs evergreens and standards, and her project Tradicija obojena jazz-om (tradition coloured with jazz) took her to the Petrovac jazz festival and the International Festival of Alternative Theatre in Podgorica in 2022. In October 2024 she gave a jazz concert in San Cesario di Lecce in Italy. New singles followed with "Vrijeme za ljubav" (2024), "Ulice" and "Sanjam" (2025).
