Dejan Petrović Big Band

Dejan Petrović Big Band is a Serbian brass orchestra led by the trumpeter Dejan Petrović, one of the best-known names of the Guča trumpet festival. The orchestra has existed since 1996; its founder and mentor was Dejan's father, Milovan "Mića" Petrović, a celebrated trumpet master.

Dejan was born in 1985 in the village of Duboko near Užice and belongs to the fourth generation of trumpeters in his family, a line that runs from his great-grandfather Tanasije through Danilo and Mića to him and his brother Darko. In 2006, at twenty, he won the highest honour of the Dragačevo Trumpet Festival in Guča and became the youngest trumpet master in the festival's history. Having won everything there was to win, he later stopped competing to give younger orchestras a chance, and he has since returned to Guča as a headliner and, in 2024, as the festival's host.

In 2006 the band changed its concept: keyboards, drums, percussion and a female singer joined the original brass line-up, and later guitar, male vocals and bass guitar. The result mixes the traditional brass band with distorted electric guitars, and the band plays its own music alongside reworked folk and rock songs, from "Rekla nana" and "Stani, stani Ibar vodo" to live versions of rock classics. Its music has also been heard in Emir Kusturica's films.

Their album Truba libre, released by Multimedia Music in 2014, brought "Vrteška", "Trubulencija", "Zlatiborac" and "New Chachak", and in 2024 the band recorded a new session with "Živote moj (Samo pesma zna)", "Homoljac" and "Zvizduk". They have played festivals at home and abroad, among them the Porto Etno Festival in Rijeka in 2023, and appeared with Aco Pejović, Milica Todorović and Željko Samardžić.

The playlist here is the band's own Truba libre playlist, with the whole album and the official videos of "New Chachak" and "Trubulencija".
