About Shyhrete Behluli
Shyhrete Behluli is a folk singer from Kosovo, born on 10 January 1962 in Mushtisht, a village in the Suhareka area. She is on Muzika-Balkan under Kosovo because she was born there and her whole career belongs to its Albanian folk music. The sources we found do not say where she lives today.
She has been singing since 1974, and in 2018 she marked more than four decades on stage. That August the then president of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, gave her the Presidential Medal of Merit, praising her work for the development and promotion of the Albanian folk song.
Her songs are the music of Kosovo Albanian family celebrations: wedding songs, songs for the bride and for the mother of the house, and songs about love and about emigrants far from home. In recent years she has recorded many of them with the singer Engjellusha, among them "Dil nusen me prit", "Fol oj Nanë" and new sets of wedding songs every year, and with Mahmut Ferati.
For her fiftieth year on stage she recorded the series Pesëdhjetë vjet me kangën ("Fifty years with song"), new versions of songs from across her career such as "Besa besë", "Shnosh me kan", "Ah pleqni", "Nuse kosovare", "Mërgimi", "Kur të lash Prishtinë" and "Treni i fundit", with guests including Engjellusha, Mahmut Ferati, Remzie Osmani and Sinan Hoxha. That series is the playlist here.
