About Ritam Nereda
Ritam Nereda is a punk rock and Oi! band from Novi Sad, Serbia. Bassist and singer Boban Petronić formed the band in 1986 after playing in earlier groups, and over the years their sound has also taken in hardcore punk and crossover thrash. Their first demo, "Za Novi Sad", was recorded in 1987, and in the early years they played mainly in clubs, before the demo "Oi Ain't Dead" came out on cassette on the Belgrade label Predskazanje Records.
The debut album "Nikog nema" was released in 1991 by the German label Dim Records and at home by Ghost House Records, with guitarist Milan Krajnović "Ćomi" now in the band. "Breaking" followed in 1993 on Walzwerk Records, with its proceeds going to children affected by the Yugoslav Wars. German authorities seized the recordings, claiming the label had broken the UN sanctions on Yugoslavia, and the album came out only after a compromise reached with UNICEF's help; a Serbian version, "Razbijanje", appeared on cassette. Its "Put beznađa" became the band's best-known song.
The live album "Pogo Live", recorded in Belgrade and Novi Sad, came out in 1995, and "Zvuci bola" (1996), with "Tuđi glasovi" and "Vaš svet", carried political lyrics. In the mid-1990s visa problems kept the band from playing abroad despite many invitations. "999" (2000), recorded in Austria and delayed eight months by the NATO bombing, brought "Protest", "Kraj", "Jedan dan" and "10 godina", with bassist Miroslav Mijatović "Mire" joining. "Poriv" (2002) and the live "Exist To Resist" followed, and "IX" (2006) had a bonus track with lyrics by Zoran Kostić "Cane" of Partibrejkers, as well as "Hiljade".
In November 2008 Saša Friš replaced Krajnović. "Paralelni svet" (2010) was released by SKC Novi Sad and as a free download from the EXIT website, and the band played EXIT in 2007, 2008 and 2010, Metalcamp in Slovenia and, on 15 September 2012, the Warrior's Dance festival on Kalemegdan. "To nisi ti" (2015), announced with "Zauvek", was followed by "30 godina" (2017), 26 live favourites re-recorded for the anniversary, and "Novo doba" (2023). The current line-up is Petronić, Mijatović, Aleksandar "Savara" Savić and Friš.
In the Rock Express Top 100 Yugoslav Rock Songs of All Times, a poll of readers, critics and musicians published in 2000, "Put beznađa" was ranked 24th, and lyrics from three of the band's songs appear in Petar Janjatović's 2008 anthology of ex-Yugoslav rock poetry.
