About Atheist Rap

Atheist Rap is a punk rock band from Novi Sad, formed in 1989. Their music is often called "fun punk" for its cheerful tunes and vocals, and their lyrics are usually humorous accounts of everyday life with a sharp eye on society.

The idea came to the singers Aleksandar Popov "Dr. Pop" and Vladimir Kozbašić "Pećinko" at a Rambo Amadeus concert in November 1988. They joined forces with guitarist Vladimir Radusinović and bassist Zoran Zarić, with Stevan Gojkov on drums, and played their first show at the Belgrade Gate of the Petrovaradin Fortress on 22 May 1989, with only a few songs in the repertoire. Recordings made in 1990 for an EP were never released on CD, but radio and TV play made the band popular anyway, and drummer Aleksandar Milanov joined at the end of that year.

Their debut, Maori i Crni Gonzales (1993), brought the hits "Wartburg limuzina" and "Blu Trabant", popular in Serbia and Macedonia, and won the album of the year award at the Brzi bendovi Srbije festival. Ja eventualno bih ako njega eliminišete followed on PGP-RTS, mixing rap-style lyrics with heavy punk riffs, rockabilly and ska. Zarić died of lymphoma on 14 February 1997 and was replaced by Zoran Lekić; Druga liga zapad, released by Hi-Fi Centar, included miniatures dedicated to him. In 1998 they played in Sarajevo with KUD Idijoti, Goblini and Sikter.

After the compilation Predsednici Predsedništva Predsednika (2001) came Osveta Crnog Gonzalesa (2005) with "Pritilend", a live DVD recorded at KST, a 20th-anniversary tour in 2009 and Priče matorih pokvarenjaka, downloaded 7,500 times in its first day. They opened the 2011 Exit festival on the main stage and played the Rebellion festival in Blackpool. In 2013 they recorded "Ja sjećam se" with Dubioza Kolektiv and Hladno pivo in tribute to KUD Idijoti's Branko Črnac Tusta, and covered Brkovi and Novembar's "Ko je sunce ubio?". In 2015 they shared a Novi Sad street concert with Let 3 and released their sixth album, Uberlauf.

In 2011 Radio 202 listeners voted "Fatamorgana" one of the 60 greatest songs released by PGP-RTB/PGP-RTS. The playlist here is the band's own channel, with "Robija", "Superstar", "Grbavci" and live shows from Exit and the 1990s.
