About Nestor Gabrić
Nestor Gabrić is a folk singer from Serbia, a Croat by birth, known for his narodne pesme, traditional and folk songs. He is on Muzika-Balkan under Serbia as a singer from Serbia, which is how the Croatian Wikipedia describes him; the sources found do not give his birthplace, his dates or the town he lived in. He sang mostly songs from Serbia, but also Bosnian sevdalinke and songs from Srem and Bačka, and he recorded mostly for Jugoton in Zagreb.
His first singles came out on Jugoton in 1958 with the folk ensemble and trio of Mića Vojnović, among them "Zaplakala moja draga", "Kosio sam seno dole kraj Morave" and "Na Moravi vodenica stara". In 1959 followed "Uželeh se, majko, Beograda" and the sevdalinka "Niz polje idu, babo, sejmeni", and in the early 1960s a run of EPs with the trio of Dragan Aleksić and the quartet of the Ilić brothers, among them "Kada moja mladost prođe", "Zarasle su staze moje", "Sokaci su zavejani snegom", "Divan je kićeni Srijem" and "Gledala čobanka". In 1966 he recorded "Sliku tvoju nosim na grudima" with the ensemble of Antun Gabrić.
His albums were Divan je kićeni Srijem and Nestor Gabrić, both on Jugoton in 1972, Pevam Vojvodini (1983) with the tamburica orchestra of Radio Television Novi Sad conducted by Janika Balaž, and the collection Zarasle su staze moje, nezaboravni hitovi (1988). The playlist is his Topic channel, with more than a hundred of these recordings, from "Divan je kićeni Srem" to "Čemu služiš, vodenico stara".
