About Klapa Trogir

Klapa Trogir is an award-winning male klapa from Trogir, founded there in 1964 by the town's cultural society Kolo, which has kept Trogir's choral tradition alive since 1919. The klapa is still based in Trogir and sings at the town's Cultural Summer.

The founders were friends and folk singers who first called themselves Grupa Dalmatinaca, one of the first formally organised klapas in Dalmatia. To take part in the first Festival of Dalmatian Klapas in Omiš in 1967 they had to change the name and sang as Oktet Trogir; with three folk songs they won the jury's second-largest prize. Over the next twenty years they collected twenty jury and audience awards in Omiš, and in 1986 they were voted the most successful klapa of the festival's first two decades.

The klapa's leaders over the years have included Josip Veršić, Ljubo Stipišić-Delmata, Nikolaj Žličar, Nikola Buble, Eduard Tudor, Joško Ćaleta and Vladan Vuletin. Its tenors have included Nikša Bilić Panto in the first line-up and later Vinko Coce and Zoran Demirović-Čuči. Their recordings of traditional songs became standard repertoire for young klapa singers, and from 1972 the klapa and the society Kolo published the song collections Pjesme staroga Trogira.

The klapa stopped performing in the first half of the 1990s and was silent for about ten years. In 2003 it came back for its fortieth anniversary, with concerts at Poljud, in the Lisinski hall and across Croatia, and in the summer of 2019 it gathered again for Trogir's Cultural Summer. At the end of 2019 it released nine unknown songs from a forgotten recording found in Split, and the album was nominated for the Porin in three categories. Their concerts are sung a cappella, without microphones, with Trogir songs, klapa versions of Zdenko Runjić's songs and tributes to departed members. Today's tenors include Ivo Ostric and Ivo Coce. The playlist gathers their traditional songs.
