About Ismet Krcić
Ismet Krcić is a Montenegrin singer of folk music, born on 27 December 1936 in Plav. He spent his childhood and early youth in Berane, then called Ivangrad, and after finishing a secondary school of physical education he moved to Belgrade, where he took his first steps in music. Throughout his career he stayed faithful to the folk songs of Montenegro, and he is best remembered for his versions of traditional songs such as "Oj, đevojko Milijana" and "Još ne sviće rujna zora".
His first record, "Još ne sviće rujna zora", came out on Jugoton in 1962. Over the next two decades he made about thirty singles and EPs for Jugoton and PGP RTB, with songs such as "Sestra mi se udaje", "Dočekaj mi, majko, svate", "Đe se čuje to veselje", "Ljepoto moja" and "Zora zori, dan se bijeli". His LPs include Ismet Krcić (PGP RTB, 1970), Još ne sviće rujna zora (Jugoton, 1979), Ismet (PGP RTB, 1981) and Svaka ti čast (PGP RTB, 1984).
He was a regular at the big folk festivals of the time. He sang "Crnogorka" at the Beogradski sabor in 1965, "Devojačke suze" at Ilidža in 1969 and "Oj, Kotorska Boko mila" at the Beogradski sabor in 1972. At Ilidža in 1983 he sang "Crnogorsko natpjevavanje" in a duet with Branka Šćepanović, and at the Hit parada in 1985 he had "Pustio sam brkove". In the late 1960s and early 1970s he also appeared regularly on Yugoslav television.
Krcić withdrew from the stage in 1992. His work has been honoured with many awards, among them the Yugoslav Estrada Award and the Golden Coat of Arms of Montenegro for lifetime achievement. In 2017 the Berane association Spona named him the town's personality of the year in culture and gave him its "Ivangrad" award for his contribution to the town's tradition and culture. He lives in Belgrade.
An anthology of his songs was released by Goraton in 2002, and his recordings, from wedding songs to love songs and old Montenegrin melodies, are gathered here in one playlist.
