About In the Attic

In the Attic is an indie rock band from Ljubljana, Slovenia, with an international line-up: the Slovenian guitarist Edvard Hadalin, the Russian singer and keyboard player Tatiana Smirnova and the Australian drummer and bassist Christopher "Chris" Charlesworth. The band was formed and is based in Ljubljana, which is why it is on Muzika-Balkan under Slovenia. They sing in English.

The band started in October 2015 as a quartet, with Luka Lah on drums and violin. They met at the British International School in Ljubljana, in the music room during breaks, and formed the band to enter Špil liga, the Slovenian competition for young bands, where they reached the final in June 2016. When Lah left in 2017 they became a trio: Charlesworth moved to the drums and Smirnova took over the bass lines on her keyboards.

In February 2018 they released a video for "Down Down", their setting of an English translation of Dane Zajc's poem "Dol dol". In May 2018 they self-released the concept album Jimmy's, the story of an imaginary character called Jimmy, with the video "Morphine Dreams", and a month later they won the fifth season of Špil liga. They also reached the final of the TV Slovenija youth music series V svojem ritmu, recording "Danny Boy" and "The Beast" at Radio Slovenija.

After the singles "Fader" and "Stalker", the EP New Fears came out in December 2019, again produced by Tomaž O. Rous. "Everybody Always Dies" in December 2020 moved the band towards art rock. In 2021 they were chosen for the INES#talent programme of European showcase festivals, played on the radio show Izštekani and appeared at the MENT festival.
