About Matter

Matter is a Slovenian trap and hip-hop trio from Kamnik, active since 2015: Dario Nožić Serini - Dacho, Luka Lah - Levanael and Matej Tunja - Tunja. Through constant concerts they soon became one of the most popular hip-hop acts in Slovenia. Their influences come less from early hip-hop than from punk, the absurd world of Albert Camus and the films of Jim Jarmusch, Wes Anderson and Terry Gilliam.

Before Matter, Dacho and Tunja rapped in the Kamnik group Illusion Art with the producer Adam Mulalić, which put out the mixtape Seme vesolnga in May 2015 and then went quiet. The same month Matter released the video for "Meduze", still their best-known song. In September 2015, playing Kino Šiška, they were surprised to hear the audience rap along to songs that until then existed only in their live shows, and joked that they were becoming a real boy band.

"Safari" in February 2016 announced the debut, preceded by the four-song EP Predjed. The album Amphibios came out on rx:tx on 20 May 2016, followed by videos for "Dizeldorf" and "Skit, ki bo hit". The second album, Mrk, was announced with "Sinovi moje madre" and "Mana", a song recorded with the stoner rock band persons from porlock, and was launched in Kino Šiška on 22 September 2017. Goran Kompoš of the magazine Mladina called the band a phenomenon that wins its popularity simply through its music. In December 2017 they also published a book of poetry, Mrak.

In 2018 the singles "Le le" and "Sedimenti" leaned on sung, auto-tuned vocals, and "27 kometov" opened Troglav, which they described as a saga beneath the Alps and released as three EPs a week apart in December 2018, presented in Kino Šiška and in Kino Udarnik in Maribor. In 2020 came "Vanilla" and "Kameleoni", and with Gregor Kocijančič (Tsujigirl) they started the project Better, with the albums Testament ljubezni (2020) and Harakiri (2021). As Matter they returned with the album Haos and the EP Omaž in 2022.
