About Genc Prelvukaj
Genc Prelvukaj, known in hip-hop as Gentz, is a rapper, singer, songwriter and producer, born on 17 July 1981. He became known as one half of Etno Engjujt, later called Etnon, the duo he formed in Pristina in 1997 with Milot Hasangjekaj, known as Mc'M. English Wikipedia describes Etnon as a Kosovar duo from Pristina, and Albanian Wikipedia says both members are from Pristina. The sources do not give his birthplace, and one English Wikipedia article calls him a Montenegrin-Albanian singer, so his family roots may also lie in Montenegro.
In the duo Genc was the main producer and wrote much of the material. Etno Engjujt blended west-coast hip-hop with Albanian ethnic music and became one of the most popular acts of the post-war years. Their albums were Dua të jetoj më mirë (1999), The Dynasty (2001), Etno Engjujt (2003), Vitamin E (2005), 10she (2007), Ethnomenon (2009) and 7th Chapter (2012). Around 2009 they turned to lighter, party themes and shortened the name to Etnon. Over the years they worked with Mad Lion, Lyrical Son, Tingulli 3nt, Arta Bajrami and Genta Ismajli, with whom they recorded "Shake It".
The duo split in 2018, and Genc carried on under his own name. That year he released the video for "Dimer", and in 2021 the album Gentivs II. His solo catalogue includes "Vjeshta Ne Prishtine", "Dashnia Jeme", "Harrove", "365 Pa Ty", "Lule E Bores", "Mungon", "Hiena" and "Rrezja Jeme".
Duets are a large part of his work: "Vetem Ti" with the singer Eni Koçi, his wife since 2019, "Maria" with Cricket, "Sa katile" with Bujar and "Trendafil i zi" with Adnan Daci, released in 2024 and remixed the following year by Granit Ismajli.
Alongside his own music Genc runs the label and production company Black Fish Entertainment, first called Gramafon Entertainment, which also makes the music videos of its artists; Etnon's later songs came out there, and in 2019 he put many of the duo's songs on the streaming services as compilations. He has also been appointed director of APIK, the Kosovo association that collects and protects the rights of authors, producers and performers.
