Emina Jahović

Emina Jahović is a Serbian pop singer and songwriter who became a star in both Serbia and Turkey. She was born on 15 January 1982 in Novi Pazar, in Serbia, to a Bosniak family, and grew up there; her mother Senija is a paediatrician, and her father Nusret, a cardiologist, died when she was 13. Born and raised in Novi Pazar, she is one of Serbia's own on Muzika-Balkan. She has made her home in Istanbul: in 2021 the Serbian press described the flat over the Bosphorus where she lives with her two sons, and she still records and tours.

She went to music school as a child and took theatre lessons in secondary school, and later graduated in management at Braća Karić University in Belgrade. Her first win came at the youth festival Zlatna staza in Montenegro with "Samo ti, moja muziko". Her debut album, Tačka, came out in 2002 and carried "U la la", which finished fourth at BH Eurosong 2002.

Radije ranije (2005, City Records) brought the hit "Da l' ona zna", and that year she was named songwriter of the year at the Pjesma Mediterana festival. In 2008 she married the Turkish singer Mustafa Sandal (they divorced in 2018) and released her first English-language single, "Exhale". Vila followed on PGP RTS in 2009, and she played Lale Taşkıran Ilgaz in the Turkish television series Lale Devri.

Turkey became her second stage. In 2012 she wrote and sang "Broken" with Erdem Kınay, took Turkish citizenship, and released her first Turkish solo single, "Kimse Yok Mu?". Its Serbian version, "I da mogu", went to number one in several countries, Bulgaria among them, and "Yakışmaz" followed in 2013, the year she won her first Turkish music award, for best breakthrough album.

Metamorfoza (2014) and Dalje (2018, IDJTunes) followed, and "Limunada" with Milica Todorović passed 80 million views on YouTube and won two awards in 2019. In 2025 she released Svitanje on her own EJ Production, with duets with Mirza Selimović and Hava, and toured with it; in 2026 came the single "Krune", and she wrote "Daleko" for Dženan Lončarević.
