About Darkwood Dub
Darkwood Dub was an alternative rock band from Belgrade, formed in the autumn of 1988 to play a mix of reggae and noise. The name came from the Italian comic Zagor. The band first played live in May 1991 at the Students' Cultural Centre in Belgrade and grew into one of the most notable acts of the Serbian and regional scene of the 1990s and 2000s.
After several changes the classic line-up settled as singer Dejan Vučetić "Vuča", guitarists Vladimir Jerić "Vlidi" and Bojan Drobac "Bambi", bassist Milorad Ristić "Miki" and drummer Lav Bratuša. The debut Paramparčad came out on Take It Or Leave It Records in 1995, and U nedogled (B92, 1996) was named album of the year by several critics. In 1997 they made the music for the BITEF staging of Trainspotting, released as the album Darkwood Dub.
Elektropionir (1999) and Život počinje u 30-oj (2002) brought electronics into their sound, followed by O danima (2004) and Jedinstvo (2008), made after Jerić had left. Jazz keyboardist Vasil Hadžimanov then joined until 2013. In 2009 the band was nominated for Best Adria Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards, and in 2010 "130" spent two weeks at number one of the Jelen Top 10. Their last album, Vidimo se, came out in 2011, and with Bisera Veletanlić they recorded "Nešto sasvim izvesno", went on tour in 2012 and made new versions of her "Milo moje" and "Ručak za dvoje".
The band also wrote for film and theatre, from the early-1990s film Geto to the play Rat/Sećanja at Atelje 212 in 2004, and guests on their records included Zoran "Kiza" Radović of Presing and Vladimir Đorđević of Lira Vega. Darkwood Dub stopped in 2017 over lasting disagreements; Drobac and Ristić went on as Bella Technika and Vučetić with Minilinija. In the 2021 list of the 100 best Serbian albums, Elektropionir was ranked 9th, Darkwood Dub 21st, Život počinje u 30-oj 42nd and Paramparčad 79th.
