About Beki Bekić
Beki Bekić, born Behljulj Behljulji on 29 November 1961 in Gusinje, Montenegro, is a Serbian folk singer and composer. He grew up in Gusinje in a family of twelve children, and his parents raised six adopted children as well. He was called Beki from childhood, and the short name became his stage name.
His parents wanted him to finish school before thinking of music. He sang in a choir and in a cultural-artistic society, and in Belgrade he enrolled at the higher school of hospitality, which he never finished. His first single, "Lažno pismo" with "Odlazim na pusto ostrvo", came out in 1981, and his parents only believed he had made a record when they saw him on the television show Hit parada.
His first album, Meni mala zamera, followed in 1985, and he sang "Sve što boli, ožiljak ostavlja" at Hit parada that year and "Ti si me opila" there in 1987. More albums came almost every year or two, among them Ne zaboravi me (1986), Joj što volim muziku narodnu (1987), Alipašin izvor (1989), named after the well-known spring near Gusinje, Život je tamnica (1991) and Možda te još volim (1992), with "Konja vrana i sat zlatni". His records range from ballads such as "Žute ruže" and "Otac" to sevdah songs such as "Nurija" and Šumadija-style songs such as "Meni stara ljubav nedostaje", which he sang at Raspevana Šumadija in Kraljevo in 1988.
After Rani me rani (1999) he took a break of about four years and returned in 2004 with Boja mastila. Veliko srce followed in 2008, Tebi pjevam oj Gusinje moje, a tribute to his home town, in 2012, and Crni dijamant in 2013. In 2012 he won second prize for interpretation at the Lira festival with "Nisam smeo".
He also writes music for other singers, including Dragana Mirković, Šaban Šaulić and Zlata Petrović, and among the songs he has given to colleagues is "Mostovi na Morači".
