About Andrijana Janevska
Andrijana Janevska is a Macedonian singer, violinist and composer, born on 6 December 1981 in Skopje, where she still lives and works. She began studying music at the age of six, wrote her first composition at eleven, plays the piano as well as the violin, and has played violin with the Macedonian National Opera. Her songs range from pop and rock ballads to traditional Macedonian music.
She first caught the public's attention at Skopje Fest 1998. The following October she was voted best newcomer at Makfest in Štip, singing the ballad "Ne možam da se zaljubam po tebe", and at the Eurofest festival she took second place with "Da sum južen veter". In February 2000 she returned to Skopje Fest, then the Macedonian Eurovision selection, with "Tvoeto pismo, moja biblija".
After a spell with the label Abra Kadabra, for which she filmed the video for "Ljuboven ritam" in Cyprus and sang at the festival in Budva, she joined Macedonian Radio Television. At Makfest 2000 her duet with Marjan Stojanovski, "Ljubov ti e adresa", won first place with the audience's votes. In March 2001 "Nostalgija" won the Skopje Fest Grand Prix with both the public and the jury, and that year she released her first album, Moja biblija, sang "Od ovde do večnosta" with the opera singer Blagoj Nacoski and recorded "Den po den" with Vrčak. In 2002 her "O Cherie, Mon Cherie" was the favourite at Skopje Fest but finished second.
After a two-year break Andrijana Janevska came back at Makfest 2004 with the rock song "Ostani", followed by "Za kraj" at Skopje Fest. At Ohrid Fest 2005 she placed third with "Dojdi bakni me". In 2006 she released the reggae single "Den" and an album of the same name, and sang "Sonce" at Ohrid Fest.
Her later records turned to tradition and to children. With MITAN she made the ethno albums Makedonski rozi (2008), Prikazna za edno mome (2009) and Patuvanje na polnokj (2013); she also released the Christmas album Dzvezdička mala (2010), the children's albums Koga si srekjen (2011) and Zaspivalki (2015), Bog i jas (2017) and Atisarga (2019) with Boštjan Leben.
Besides singing she teaches: she has taught violin, solfeggio, music theory and voice, and is a professor at the Faculty of Music Arts in Skopje. Since 2003 she has sung in the women's chamber choir St. Zlata Meglenska, which won two gold medals and one silver at the World Choir Competition in Riga in 2014, the only Macedonian choir among 570 groups. In 2023 she returned to Makfest with "I bez tebe možam" and released "Mi zaplakalo seloto Vataša"; that year MRT also approached her to represent North Macedonia at Eurovision 2024, which she declined.
