About Urgh!
Urgh! is a band from Belgrade, formed in January 1991 as a grindcore quartet around Dragoslav Ružić "Guru Ghagi" (vocals), Đorđe Smiljanić "Djolle" (guitar) and Dejan Stanisavljević "Stanna" (drums), with bass players changing often. The name is the onomatopoeic word so common in comic books. Their first recordings, "Acid Rain" and "Paradise Town", appeared on the compilation Tito nikada više in 1992, and the same year came the split cassette Yonuss Tape with the girl band PMS. The video for "Paradise Town", shown on national television, brought them to a wider audience.
With Igor Štanglicki "Krrle" settled on bass, they began mixing rock, rap, noise and techno, recorded on the cassette album 9194 (1995), with Jelena Komnenić of Dead Ideas as a guest. Acoustic shows in late 1995, played on guitars, violin, accordion and toys, became the live tape Unplugged, and that year the Brzi bendovi Srbije festival named them band of the year. Oesophagus followed on B92 in 1997, with videos for "Kratko & jasno", "Apo pantos kakodaimonos" and "Razmena materije". In 1998 Guru Ghagi sang on Vlada Divljan's songs for the film 3 palme za dve bitange i ribicu, one of them with Šaban Bajramović.
Their first CD, Sumo, recorded in 2000 and released by Be Bop Records in 2001, had "Kašika, viljuška, nož" with an animated video and "Stigmata" with Beogradski sindikat; after it the band stopped. In 2009 Guru Ghagi, the guitarist Jovan Ružić "Yolefist" and the bassist Maja Cvetković brought Urgh! back with the drummer Siniša Stojanović, and in May 2011 the album Pozorište surovosti was released as a free download, announced by "Horoskop laže".
In 2025 they released the album Posle pandemije, pre Trećeg svetskog rata and followed it with a run of new videos, among them "Igra velikih brojeva", "Lekcija iz skromnosti", "Najslabiji čovek na svetu" and "Narodne mudrolije".
