About Tožibabe
Tožibabe were a hardcore punk band from Ljubljana, Slovenia, and the first all-female rock band in Slovenia and Yugoslavia in which the women wrote all the music and lyrics themselves. They were active from 1983 to 1987 and sang in Slovenian. As a Ljubljana band they are on Muzika-Balkan under Slovenia.
The core of the band from beginning to end was Alenka Marsenič Marsa, Lidija Rupnik and Mojca "Krischka" Krisch; Pika played with them at the very start, and Barbara added keyboards when they recorded their single. The members swapped instruments from song to song, and all of them screamed the vocals. Their lyrics were dark and full of despair.
They belonged to the Ljubljana hardcore scene of the 1980s alongside bands such as Niet. Their songs appeared on the Hard-Core Ljubljana compilation in 1985 and on Ljubljana tape compilations, and in 1986 they released their only record of their own, the four-song 7" EP Dežuje, with "Dežuje", "Ti", "Trash" and "Lutke". They played as far as Belgrade and Thessaloniki and made several music videos with their own scripts and direction.
Their recordings have been reissued several times since, among them an official reissue in 2015 and an anthology of 26 remastered tracks authorised by the three members. The playlist gathers that material: the Dežuje EP, the compilation tracks, live recordings from the Novi Rock festival in 1986 and the 1984 rehearsal tape.
